"X-ray specs"[1][2] or "mine helmet"[3] was a device Andrew Wells wore capable of performing spectral analysis and detect mystic emanations. Despite the nickname, the specs were not related to X-ray vision but applied to a multispectrum of energy frequencies.[1][2]
