Wesley Wyndam-Pryce was a former Watcher and a member of Angel Investigations active in Los Angeles in a universe parallel to the universe without shrimp. He was the Watcher for the Slayer Fred Burkle,[1] who eventually became his lover.[2]
Biography[]
At some point Wesley was assigned to be the Watcher for newly activated Slayer Fred Burkle, who was attended UC Sunnydale at the time.[3] This led him to join her in Los Angeles as part of the detective agency Angel Investigations with Angel, Spike, Charles Gunn, Andrew Wells, Cordelia Chase and Lorne.[1] During their adventures, they traveled to Pylea where they met the Groosalugg, who became a friend of the group, and fought the demon Lanugo.[4]
During one mission in 2022 against the mummy Suppiluliuma, Wesley was fatally wounded by the Blade of Suppiluliuma and, in desperation, Fred bought a spirit house to contain his soul. However, the weapon used to kill Wesley turned him into a zombie and Angel became trapped within the spirit house. While attempting to free Angel, the team accidentally unleashed a sorrow demon from the spirit house, which turned out to be their old friend Groo. Meanwhile, the Daniel Osbourne of another universe arrived and warned them about how an evil version of Angel had killed his friends. During all of this, the Watchers Council learns of Wesley's new undead status and fired him, though this allowed him and Fred to act on their feelings for each other.[1][2][4] However, with help Fred's ex-boyfriend from Riley Finn, they were able to stop Groo and convince him to stop his rampage.[3]
Due to his undead form and injuries sustained while trying to stop Groo, Wesley was slowly falling apart and struggling to speak when the Daniel Holtz of another reality arrived in the Hyperion Hotel, hunting Angel's and Spike's counterparts. During the fight, the team stopped Holtz, but Wesley was further harmed while saving Spike, causing Fred to blame the vampire. However Wesley was restored to having a more stable form thanks to Spike giving him a piece of his own soul, though due to his anger at Fred the vampire left the team while Angel also quit.[5]
Not long after Wesley and Fred realized that more and more vampires were being sired, realizing that the soulless Angelus from another world was building an army, and Wesley admitting to having some concern for Spike after he saved his life.[6] Wesley went out looking for Spike, who had started working on Angel for Hire, but informed the team how there appeared to have been a fight at the set, with them and Angel arriving to help him look for the vampire. Together they managed to find him and discover that his soul was slowly being trained by Dr. Daedalus, who had earlier removed the piece of Spike's soul he had given to Wesley. The team went after Daedalus to get Spike's soul back, but the fight was interrupted by the arrival of Drusilla, who destroyed what was left of Spike's soul, and Angelus along with his horde.[7] While the rest of the team managed to escape, Wesley took the shocked Spike to where Daedalus had removed his soul, and the Watcher sacrificed his own life to return the piece of Spike's soul contained within him.[8]
