The Wan-Shang Dhole is a demon species, presumably with five claws. Wesley suggested it, along with the Cantonese Fook-Beast, as a likely culprit of the destruction that left Cordelia with a series of cuts after an intense vision, which was engineered by Wolfram & Hart.

As the dhole (or dole) is a kind of wild dog native to Southeast Asia, the Wan-Shang Dhole is likely a hellhound, as it appears in various myths.

Behind the Scenes

The specific name "Wan-Shang Dhole" also appeared in a sixth-season episode of The X-Files ("Alpha"), in which it was a shape-shifting canine capable of taking the form of a man or of several different dogs. "Alpha," which aired two years earlier, was also written by Jeffrey Bell, who wrote "That Vision Thing," so this is probably an intentional reference.
