A ritual was meant to restore a sick vampire back to full health.[1]

History[]

In 1997, Drusilla was captured by an angry mob in Prague and left badly weakened from the torture.[2] After arriving in Sunnydale,[3] Spike eventually discovered that Drusilla could be fully restored to health through a ritual involving the blood of her sire, Angel.[1]

To carry out this plan, Spike kidnapped Angel and hired the Order of Taraka to assassinate the Slayer, Buffy Summers, to prevent her from interfering.[1] The Order failed, however, and Buffy intervened, saving Angel's life and leaving Spike and Drusilla for dead in the burning church.[4]

However, unbeknownst to the Scooby Gang at the time, both vampires survived; Drusilla was restored to perfect health,[4] while Spike was left temporarily paralyzed from the waist down.[5]

Requirements[]

According to Giles, the ritual must take place in a church on the night of the new moon. Spike had the weakened Drusilla and her sire Angel chained together in an abandoned church. He carried a smoking censer to the altar and joined Drusilla and Angel's hands. Holding the Du Lac Cross upside down, Spike opened it and used the dagger inside the cross to stab through their hands, from where a pink light emanated. All the while, Spike chanted:[4]

"Eligor, I name thee. Bringer of war, poisoners, pariahs, grand obscenity! Eligor, wretched master of decay, bring your black medicine. Come restore your most impious, murderous child from the blood of the sire she is risen! From the blood of the sire shall she rise again!"
