Vampire Brothels' were establishments in which humans paid female vampires to drink their blood, as humans often felt thrills and adrenaline rushes from the blood loss. As the vampires get paid to do so and do not want to be hunted, they spare the humans, but some tend to die accidentally, or be killed by vampires who disobey the rules.
Bottom-feeder vampires engage in this type of activity in order to obtain money and food without leaving behind corpses that might attract vampire hunters or Slayers.
