[[Jonathan Levinson|Jonathan]], during [[augmentation spell|his time]] as the [[Initiative]]'s tactician, found out in Professor [[Maggie Walsh|Walsh]]'s original design schematics for Adam that his power source was not biological, but a a small reservoir of uranium 235. According to Jonathan, the core was capable of lasting "essentially forever."<ref name="Superstar">"[[Superstar]]"</ref>

The [[Scooby Gang]] determined that they needed to extract the uranium core from Adam in order to defeat him. Riley informed them it was embedded inside Adam's chest, probably near the spine. The group considered researching a [[spell]] capable of
extracting uranium or paralyzing Adam to perform an exploratory surgery on him, but they would be unable to either find or perform such spells.<ref name="Primeval">"[[Primeval]]"</ref>

Ultimately, [[Buffy Summers|Buffy]], [[Willow Rosenberg|Willow]], [[Alexander Harris|Xander]], and [[Rupert Giles|Giles]] performed an [[enjoining spell]] that combined their abilities, which allowed them to punch through Adam's chest, reach into the uranium core, and remove it from inside Adam. Without the core, Adam fell dead on the floor. The Scoobies then cast a Sumerian spell that levitated the core from Buffy's hand and [[magic]]ally disappeared.<ref name="Primeval"/>
