- “Sorry, Angel. Changed the locks.”
- ―Buffy Summers[src]
An uninvitation spell was a spell capable of revoking a vampire's invitation to a private residence.[1]
History[]
After Angel began to step up his torment of the Scooby Gang, they found a ritual to revoke his invitations to the Summers residence, the Rosenberg residence, Giles' apartment, and Cordelia's car. The spell reinstated the invisible barrier that prevented a vampire from entering otherwise.[2]
Willow and Tara later performed the same uninvitation spell on the Summers residence against Dracula, after he had coerced Joyce into inviting him in;[3] Harmony, who Dawn mistakenly dared to enter the house;[1] and Spike, who Buffy discovered had an obsessive love for her.[4]
Once the ritual was completed, however, a vampire could be re-invited later to no ill effect.[5][6]
Requirements[]
- “...hicce verbis, consensus recissus est.”
- ―Willow[src]

Willow and Tara use herbs for the ritual.
According to Giles, the ritual for the uninvitation spell required a recitation of a few rhyming couplets, burning of moss herbs, sprinkling of holy water, and hanging of crosses. Apparently, the ritual didn't need to be fully complete yet for the invitation to have been revoked; when Angel was blocked from entering Buffy's house, Willow was just about to finish her chanting.[2]
