The Mistress was a morbidly obese siren, ressembled to a octopus-like woman. She was also the leader of a pack residing in San Franscisco, whom members use hypnotizing song for to lure and devour males customers into bars and clubs like Xander Harris and the vampire Spike. However, the two men, partially saved by the ghost of Anya Jenkins, succeed in going out of the bewitchment. Also, the boss lady runs away, loading her minions to eliminate them. After this fight, Spike and Xander tells the story to the inspector Robert Dowling who notify his department to keep an hear to the ground for her. On Buffy's request, D'Hoffryn tried to magically located her. However, the creature had also magical protection and was seen conclude a pact with the Soul Glutton and a mysterious demon named The Sculptor, for a project to prevent the Slayer Buffy Summers and their apparently rival D'Hoffryn to change the magic rules with the Slayer Handbook.
After killing The Soul Glutton, D'Hoffryn claims to The Mistress, that he doesn't need her anymore, letting her burn to death.

- Before her appareance, it seems that all the sentient creatures like the She-Mantis for example, was unconcerned, unconscious or indifferent by the surnatural community (mainly vampires, witches and demons), by the fight between Evil and good forces or by The Slayer. Also, the Mistress was the first creature of her type who demonstrated a clearly partnership with demons
- She is also very similar to Ursula, the sea witch and main vilain from "The Little Mermaid" Disney movie.
