Tara Maclay was a witch who sought the title of Queen of Black Magic in an alternative reality where Cordelia was the Slayer.^[1]

She was best friends with the fellow witch Anya Jenkins until Drusilla tricked Tara into using Kurgan's Grimoire, which contained the blackened soul of Andrey Kurgan. Corrupted with dark magic, Tara and her lover Drusilla sought a spell that would make vampires immune to sunlight. Tara kept witches and warlocks in a dungeon to absorb their magic, but she continued to struggle inside herself and attempt not to hurt her friends.^[2]
