Romantic Interests - Joyce Summers
I noticed while re-watching Buffy s05e17 "Forever" that GIles's way of mourning for Joyce was to play the song that they listened to together while under the influence of Band Candy. Although they never resumed a romantic relationship, it seems clear that Giles held a special regard for her. It'd be great if the article could be updated to reflect this. Giles' Age and Class Background
This page says that Giles was born in 1954. Can someone tell me where we learn that?
That would make him 42 or 43 in Season 1, and 48 or 49 in Season 7. I assumed he was older than that.
Also, I'm puzzled that we say he was "born into an upper-class family." It was my understanding that the British "upper class" was always very small and select, and I see nothing about Giles that would indicate he belonged to it. The following is from Mandy Barrow's "Project Britain," http://www.woodlands-junior.kent.sch.uk/customs/questions/class.htm:
"The British Social Class System
"The British society has often been considered to be divided into three main groups of classes:
the Upper Class Often people with inherited wealth. Includes some of the oldest families, with many of them being titled aristocrats.
the Middle Class The majority of the population of Britain. They include industrialists, professionals, business people and shop owners.
Lower or Working Class People who are agricultural, mine and factory workers."
If there is any truth to this at all, a family could be both wealthy and accomplished without belonging to the upper class. How did Giles, or his family, get into it? Does anyone ever refer to him, or does he ever refer to himself, as upper class? I sure don't remember it.
I notice our article on Hank Summers also does (or used to?) refer to him as "upper class." I don't know where that came from, either. I would say that George Bush might be upper class, since his family has been in politics for generations (though he'd shun anyone who referred to him that way), but Bill Gates is not.

Anthony Stewart Head born in 1954
I have since learned that Anthony Stewart Head was born in February, 1954. Is that perhaps why we think Rupert Giles might've been born in that year? I suppose that will do if there really is no other.

The page now lists "Edmund" as Giles' middle name. I'm just curious where this came from. Anyone have a source? DinoSlider 01:43, January 20, 2011 (UTC)
