Spike was a fictional character in the film Last Angel in Hell. Her name and personality were loosely based on the real Spike, who was amused that his film counterpart was a "stunning" girl,[1] while her biography was similar to Darla's. In addition to her appearance in the film, Spike had a prequel comic story titled Sara's Tale.[2]
Biography[]
Born Sara, her parents were killed by what she believed to be werewolves. She developed abandonment issues and all she had to remember her parents was a solid metal cigarette holder.[2]
Sara became a vampire and revealed herself on her wedding day with the cop Angel Cartwright, who compared her teeth to spikes. She invited several vampires to the ceremony, who ate all the guests to fulfill the prophecy that Hell would come to Earth if vampires slaughtered enough people.[2]
Two months later, in Hell, Sara had assumed the name Spike and was involved with Satan. She warned Angel to stay away from the devil and eventually stole the cursed dagger so Angel could defeat him. Satan's death restored Los Angeles, and Angel kept his team with Fred, Gunn, and Spike, who became pregnant with Angel's child and wanted to name it Connor.[2]
Behind the scenes[]
- Contrary to the movie versions of Angel and Gunn, Spike was not based on any real actress because Brian Lynch planned to use her in the Spike series. He explained: "Spike would want to meet the lady that played him, for sure. So if I made it, say, Angelina Jolie, I couldn't use her as a supporting character in Spike."[3]
- According to Lynch, the character's British accent comes and goes: "In my head, I pictured the actress not able to pull off a British accent that well."[3]
