Behind the scenes[]

  • It was Brian Lynch's writing on this miniseries that convinced Joss Whedon to revisit Angel's story and that he would the best writer to script the After the Fall series.[1]
  • One of Lynch's original characters from Asylum, Betta George, was reintroduced in After the Fall as an supporting character, encouraged by Joss Whedon.[1] Other concepts from Lynch's stories are used in After the Fall, including Beck and the Mosaic Wellness Center, and both George and Spike vaguely reference events from the miniseries. Beck herself then appears in the canonical Spike main series.
  • Spike: Asylum was originally conceived as taking place after the series finale of Angel, but 20th Century Fox vetoed. In an early draft, there was a mention of Spike stealing Angel's thunder by running ahead and slaying the dragon from "Not Fade Away" before Angel had the chance, but that was one of several lines that Fox insisted to be removed.[1]
