Soul Eaters were a rare humanoid demon species known for feeding on human souls.

One of these demons was buried by the Chumash people in the early XIX century. Charles Gunn and Connor sought the skull of the soul eater after being sent to retrieve one by Cordelia Chase, who was secretly possessed by Jasmine.

Additionally a Soul Eater--most likely a seperate species--appears in the current arc of the IDW Angel series as the new Big Bad. Jamaerah had grown Liss, a female Soul Eater, from the body of a murdered tenant and enlisted her as his agent against Angel and Spike. Liss, as the Soul Eater has come to be named, uses a client of Angel Investigations to gain direct access to the Hyperion hotel in order to consume the souls of both vampires.

Powers

The Soul Eater depicted in "Calvary" had the ability to drain the soul and lifeforce of humans through its hands. It was also capable of moving at extreme speeds, making it nearly invisible to the human eye. It was also capable of surviving without oxygen for centuries.

While Liss also shares the power to consume souls through touching, Liss' additional abilities include superhuman strength, necromancy, and the ability to detect the presence of souls. Liss can physically pass as a human and is able to function as such although she has an inpatient and blunt demeanor.
