The sorcerer Richard Wilkins performs a dark ritual.

Of course through black magic and sorcery. I'm a demon.

Sorcerer was a magic practitioner adept of dark or black magic, known as sorcery.[1]

History[]

The Temple of Sobek was an Ancient Egyptian cult described as being heavy into dark magic. The dark incantation Sobekian transmogrification spell demanded enormous power, which Glory employed to transmogrify a snake into a monster in 2000.[2]

Sorcerers would achieve Ascension as a result of a series of dark rituals,[3][1] including the Dedication.[1] At least three humans ascended, becoming the embodiment of a Old One: one circa 1200 in the Koskov Valley;[1] another in 1723, in Sharpsville;[3] and Richard Wilkins in 1999, in Sunnydale.[1]

Anya knew the French sorcerer Cloutier in the 16th century. He notably created Tirer la Couverture, a trance to see the trace signature of spells, which demons "hated."[4]

In 1999, Wilkins summoned a demon sorcerer to remove Angel's soul, to which the demon agreed. However, he only faked the soul removal spell as a way to pay a debt he owed to Giles.[3]

The Scooby Gang intended to use Breath of the Entropics to destroy the Box of Gavrok with "some down and dirty black magic." They eventually had the ritual interrupted to exchange the box for Willow.[5]

Giles discovered he had bought at a sorcerer's estate sale the Word of Valios, a 15th century talisman essential for completing the Sacrifice of Three and open the Hellmouth.[6]

The XXI fight club employed wrist-cuffs forged by ancient sorcerers. The cuffs forced the wearer to stay in a designed area; otherwise, they would disintegrate. The artifact was half magic, half medieval technology, which Wesley and Cordelia deactivated with the help of an alchemist's text.[7]

The witch Willow used the book Darkest Magick, kept in the off-limits area of the Magic Box, to prepare an attack against Glory. Willow's eyes turned black, and she cast a number of spells powerful enough to harm the goddess.[8]

During the Fall of Los Angeles, a sorceress helped Lorne banish demons from Silver Lake, turning it into a safe haven for humans and pacific supernatural beings.[9]

While searching the Pandora Project's laboratory, Willow claiming an enlarged cyborg octopus reeked of sorcery, and Spike identified the project combined sorcery and technology in its creations.[10]
