The Simulated Sunlight spell was an attempt made by Willow Rosenberg to create a simulated floating ball of sunlight. The idea was to help Buffy Summers dust vampires using this light source.
Willow stated that the spell was very sensitive and that any non-ritual words can disrupt it. Anya, however, ignored this and continued to ask questions, which resulted in a massive argument that led to Olaf being released from the crystal he was trapped in after Willow ordered Anya to "let it go."
