"Silent Screams" is a prose short story of the Tales of the Slayer book series. Written by Mel Odom, it was originally published on October 2, 2001 by Simon Pulse.

Summary[]

Frederich Lichtermann writes in an improvised Watcher Diary while imprisoned in a mausoleum. He is the watcher of the new Slayer, Britta Kessler. He trained her but never once encountered a vampire or demon. One night, they attended a motion picture party of a new horror movie, Silent Screams, only to find out that the creators were vampires who planned to kill their attendees as the last scene for the film.

Britta was able to slay a number of vampires and free part of the audience, but Lichtermann fled with them. He saw the vampires holding back the identified Slayer, but left her to die alone, breaking his promise to her. After her death, Lichtermann went after her body to stake her at her family mausoleum, but it was a trap. He was locked with filming cameras and the newly sired Britta, who now wants nothing more than to kill the Watcher that betrayed her. Lichtermann signs the message asking that it'll be send to the Watchers Council, while Watcher and Slayer now hunt each other.
