Ripper was the evil alternate reality version of Rupert Giles who was loyal to the First Evil. Ripper, unlike Giles, embraced magic, going by Ripper instead of Giles like his main reality counterpart. Ripper acted as one of the First's champions in its contest with Ethan Rayne. In the First's hell dimension, Ripper guarded Cassandra Rayne's torso in the Sunnydale Zoo where a Bringer protected him from attack with a teleportation spell. After Buffy Summers broke through the Bringer's defense, she was stunned to see the foe she had to confront was Ripper who summoned zombie gorillas, threw fireballs, teleported, levitated and duplicated himself to avoid Buffy's attacks. Despite all this, Buffy gained the upper hand and killed Ripper, gaining Cassandra's torso.
