Peter Nicols was an evil and completely delusional student at Sunnydale High who tried to sacrifice Cassie Newton to summon the demon Avilas.
Buffy saved Cassie and killed Avilias (though Cassie died of a heart attack later, anyway), but not before Avilas bit Peter's neck, causing him to bleed. As punishment for what he had done, Buffy and Spike made no effort to help him, helping Cassie instead.
