An Orb of Thesulah was a magical crystal orb used as a spirit vault for the rituals of the undead.[1][2] It was used to summon a human soul from the ether and stored it until the soul was transferred.[3] It was the primary ingredient for the Ritual of Restoration.[1][2][4][3]

By the late 20th century, the transliteration annals for the ritual had been lost, rendering the remaining text indecipherable until Jenny's efforts in 1998. The sole application for an Orb of Thesulah had been used as a new-age paperweight;[1] Giles owned one for this purpose.[2]

The Orb of Thesulah would glow brightly whenever it was held. Angel pointed out the fragility of these orbs before shattering one against a wall.[1] Once the ritual was successfully completed, the orb being used would disappear.[2][4] During the end of magic, the artifact was unable to perform its magical function.[5]
