Moloch's [[soul]] was contained in a [[Moloch's Book|tome]] created by an order of during the Dark Ages. Moloch was accidentally released by a computer which scanned the book's text thus activating the release spell that bound him to the book. Escaping into the Internet, Moloch went on to woo [[Willow Rosenberg|Willow]] while posing as an eighteen-year-old boy called Malcolm Black, simultaneously 'recruiting' other students to help him as he attempted to construct a new body for himself, eventually constructing a powerful robotic body while retaining a 'wireless' connection to the Internet that allowed him to access any information he wanted. He claimed to genuinely love Willow due to her releasing him into this new world, offering her a place at his side in his new world order, but given the ease with which he attempted to destroy her after she rejected him the depth of this affection is questionable. Aided by techno-pagan [[Jenny Calendar]], [[Rupert Giles|Giles]] attempted to bind Moloch back in the book, but the spell initially simply cut Moloch off from the Internet, and trapped him in the cyborg body instead. Buffy destroyed the body through electrocution, killing Moloch.
