Matthew was a preteen who took refuge in sewers with Tommy Golden, Randall Golden, and Holly after the Beast blotted out the sun in Los Angeles. Tommy and Randall saved him in a pile-up on La Brea when vampires laid tire traps on the road, “havin' themselves a car-wreck picnic”. He watched them murder his parents. When Angel vamped out to face a demon, he ran outside and became a follower of Jasmine, betraying Angel's location.
