In the classroom they were going to learn about "Infiltration and Assassination."

Marcie Ross turns invisible during class which no one notices

Marcie was a student at Sunnydale High School. She was not popular, had no friends and was completely ignored, even by the teachers. On her yearbook the only thing people signed was "Have a nice summer" which was used when they had nothing to say. Even unpopular students like Willow Rosenberg and Xander Harris wrote this and didn't seem to know her even though they had shared four classes in the ninth grade. Marcie's only real activity was to play the flute.

After a while, Marcie became invisible during one of Ms. Miller's classes when she raised her hand up to provide answers but was not noticed. Rupert Giles theorized that it was the result of the Hellmouth manipulating reality on the quantum level. Since people essentially perceived Marcie as being invisible, she literally became that way. After this, Marcie then took shelter above the school's ceiling.

Marcie's disappearance is related entirely in flashback sequences of her own sepia filtered memories.  The first flashback finds Cordelia talking to Harmony which precedes Harmony being yanked down the stairs. Marcie’s identity is still a secret as she is depicted in a POV shot. The second flashback has Marcie on screen attempting to engage the ‘Cordettes’ in conversation, but to no avail. This flashback does not precede an attack. Finally, the third flashback portrays Marcie in class and as she begins to realize her invisibility; she is captured in slow motion. As is mentioned above it is in this moment she realizes her fate, examining her left hand as it begins to fade from sight.

"Haunting" Sunnydale High

Six months after becoming invisible, Marcie started using this new "power" to assault the popular students and teachers in retribution for her being ignored, due to her being driven insane by her loneliness and exile from everyone else. She first beat Mitch Fargo with a baseball bat in the boy's locker room, leaving the word "LOOK". She pushed Harmony Kendall down a staircase and tried to kill Ms. Miller by suffocating her with a plastic bag, leaving the word "LISTEN" written on the chalkboard. It then became clear that her main target was Cordelia Chase, the most popular girl in school.

Marcie, about to stab Buffy

The Slayer, Buffy Summers, found out what had happened to Marcie and tried to help Cordelia when she discovered the connection between her and the other victims, and though she felt sympathy for Marcie because of what she endured, she nonetheless decided that she couldn't let it continue. They tried to trap Marcie by using Cordelia as bait, but Marcie managed to capture her and knock out Buffy with a hypodermic needle.

She also tried to kill Giles, Xander and Willow by locking them in the boiler room and flooding it with gas. However, Angel rescued the group because of his lack of a need to breathe (being a vampire).

Marcie's destiny

Marcie took Cordelia and Buffy to the Bronze, tying them to chairs with the word "LEARN" placed decoratively on the curtain with sparkles. Marcie planned on giving Cordelia a "make-over" by mutilating her face. Buffy managed to free herself, but found it difficult to fight Marcie when she couldn't see her. Buffy used her Slayer senses to detect the sound of Marcie's movements, and landed a perfect punch, flying Marcie into the curtain which fell on her, rendering her visible.

"Rehabilitation"

Marcie was then taken away by federal agents Doyle and Manetti, who took her to a classroom full of invisible students like herself. As she arrived, the teacher instructed her to turn to page 54 of a textbook to a chapter titled "Assassination and Infiltration." Looking at the page, Marcie remarked "cool".
