Cordelia's got a game to think about. She doesn't need losers like you.
―Joy to Buffy Summers[src]

Joy was a Sunnydale High School student and the captain of the Sunnydale High cheerleading squad.

In 1997, she coordinated the cheerleader trials for the squad. Although, the candidates were falling under Catherine Madison's magical influence as soon as they entered the squad. During a routine, Buffy Summers, victim of a Bloodstone Vengeance Spell, stepped on her foot and threw her against a wall, so Joy kicked her out.[1]

As the squad performed for the basketball game, Catherine fell over her. Joy asked "Amy" what was her problem, but became fearful with the menacing stare the witch gave her.[1]

In the following academic year, Buffy was looking for Cordelia Chase, and asked Joy about her. The cheerleader called Buffy a loser, but e eventually answered after the Slayer posed threateningly against her.[2] In 1999, after Joy graduated high school, she was succeeded by Cordelia as squad captain.[3]
