Biography[edit | edit source]
Venice, 1890s[edit | edit source]
Its first appearance in recorded history was in Venice, Italy, in the late 1890s, where it was defeated by Angelus, Drusilla, Spike, their new associate Catherine DeLancie – Darla's location at this time was unknown – and a group of vampires they had assembled, using holy weapons Angelus had created.
Sunnydale, 1998[edit | edit source]
The Hollower returned to Sunnydale in 1998, where it attempted to gather its army once again, forcing Catherine to contact the now-ensouled Angel for aid. Despite his current relationship with Buffy Summers, the Slayer, Angel decided to handle the crisis alone, feeling that it would be uncomfortable for Buffy to have to save the vampires she had sworn to slay, and also stating that the event merely felt like his fight. Despite Angel's efforts, Buffy and Rupert Giles deduced the Hollower's presence in Sunnydale, Buffy saving Angel from being consumed by the Hollower as Giles completed a ritual to empower a spear that could slay the demon. After the fight, Buffy confessed that she had speculated that Angel hadn't told her about the Hollower's presence so that he could allow it to drain him- based on theory that, unlike other vampires whose bodies automatically collapsed into dust when the Hollower drained their demon, Angel may have been able to survive the process as the Hollower could have left his soul intact even after extracting Angelus-, but Angel assured her that, while the thought had crossed his mind, he had too much to lose to take such a risk.
Appearance[edit | edit source]
The Hollower consisted of many tentacles, which converged upon a head. Its head had several green eyes and many razor-sharp teeth.
Powers and Abilities[edit | edit source]
Capable of draining the demon from vampires, the Hollower would grow until it reached a mystical 'critical mass'. When critical mass was reached it would expel the vampire demons which would turn unbitten humans into vampires which would be it's servants, who would create new vampires for the Hollower to feed on.
