I love what you've, um, neglected to do with the place.
Joyce Summers about the Crypt[src]
What, you mean before? A crypt actually, but nicer. A bit more... I don't know if posh is the right word, but it was more like... Comfy.

Spike's Crypt is the term used to describe a particular crypt in the Sunnydale Cemetery that Spike made his home circa 2000-2002.

Before Spike moved out of Xander's basement in "A New Man", he said to Anya Jenkins that he would probably look for a crypt as a dwelling in one of Sunnydale's many cemeteries. He was then seen going around a cemetery, looking for a suitable place later in the same episode. In "The I in Team", when the interior of the crypt is first shown, it is mostly empty, and Spike is seen sleeping on a "bed" composed of a stone slab and a ratty old blanket.

It is later revealed that a hole in the crypt floor leads into an underground cavern, which is part of Sunnydale's extensive network of tunnels, and which in the fifth season contains a small shrine dedicated to Buffy (composed of many pictures and objects that Spike had pilfered from her home). However, Buffy indirectly destroys this in "Crush" by punching Spike with enough force to send him flying into it.

During the summer following Buffy's death in "The Gift" the crypt's decoration goes through some conspicuous changes off-screen. Spike supposedly spent some time to turn it into a comfortable home, complete with a cable TV, refrigerator, lamps and various pieces of furniture, including an armchair acquired from Buffy's house[1]. At this point in the series - as shown in "After Life" and "Life Serial" - the lower level of the crypt also seems to be comfortably furnished and contains what looks to be a bar counter and a double size bed (notably seen in "Gone"). Its floor is covered by Persian carpets as shown in "Dead Things". In "As You Were" however, the furnishing of the lower lever gets destroyed in an explosion along with Suvolte Demon's eggs after Riley discovers that Spike had been hiding them there.

When Spike went to Africa to get his soul, he left Clem in possession of his crypt. The crypt is last seen in "Two to Go" - Spike was not seen to revisit the crypt after his return to Sunnydale in Season Seven, instead staying first in the basement of the new Sunnydale High and briefly in Xander's apartment, and then in the basement of Buffy's house. In "Empty Places", Clem is seen fleeing Sunnydale, it is not known however whether he had been living in the crypt prior to his departure.

It was presumably destroyed along with the rest of Sunnydale following the Spike's sacrifice at Battle at the Hellmouth in "Chosen".
