"Groupies" - also referred as "Crazies" - was the term Glorificus employed to refer to the population of Sunnydale mentally-ill humans, most of them victims' of the Beast's "brain-sucking" feedings.

Due to their "outside reality" status, these individuals were capable of seeing beyond the effects of reality manipulation rituals and spells, such as the one performed by the Order of Dagon to transform The Key into Dawn Summers. They were capable of perceiving Dawn's original nature as well as sensing mystical events such as the "Big Day".
