Glutton for Punishment is the second trade-paperback of Buffy: The High School Years comic book series. It's written by Kel McDonald and art by Yishan Li. Joss Whedon is the Executive Producer.

When Buffy and Xander sign up for Home Ec, assuming it will be an extra-credit cakewalk, they aren’t aware that the teacher is a ravenous tiger demon in disguise! When he’s found to be kidnapping his top students and forcing them to cook for him, Buffy must rescue her fellow students—and give the tiger demon his just desserts!

This graphic novel takes place during Buffy the Vampire Slayer Season 1.

Since Principal Flutie is alive still and present, it takes place prior to "The Pack" and, at least, after "Teacher's Pet".

Behind the Scenes

Pop Culture References

  • Xander mentions Disneyland.
  • Buffy mentions Betty Crockers, a fictional character used in advertising campaigns for food and recipes, originally by the Washburn-Crosby Company, today General Mills. Betty epitomizes a motherly, caring and knowledgeable homemaker offering cooking and housekeeping advice [1]
  • Xander mentions Superman, a fictional superhero appearing in American comic books published by DC Comics, and his planet's element, Krypton.
  • Xander mentions Hell's Kitchen, a cookery reality TV show, first aired in 2004 (in the UK) and 2005 (in the USA, hosted by chef Gordon Ramsay) [2] This may be considered a mistake, since this story takes place during the first season of Buffy (somewhere in 1997).
