The Crown of Coils was a magical artifact that had the ability to restore dead flesh, similar to the effect of Mohra blood. Angel and Faith traveled to a Peruvian demons' lair to retrieve it. As they fought the demons, the creatures continuously regenerated as a result of the Crown's influence, and were only killed when Faith burned them with a blowtorch. Afterward, they tested it on one of the demons' victims; to their amazement, the decomposed corpse became fresh once more, but because the body contained no soul, it remained dead. Angel then brought the Crown back to London, where he put it in the care of Alasdair Coames for the purpose of having it studied.
