The Essuary was a magical item used to contain the fragments of Rupert Giles' soul after they were extracted from Angel's body. It did not rely on a spell to function, but rather its own energies allowed it draw and house Giles' soul. According to Alasdair Coames, it had not been seen since 1978. It was in the possession of a coven of Enders in London before it was retrieved by Spike and Faith.
