An enchanted sword[1] was Angel's favorite broadsword[2][3] and the weapon he most commonly used in his time in Los Angeles.[4][5][6][7] He kept it in the weapons cabinet in the Hyperion Hotel.[2][8][6][9]
History[]
In late 1999, Doyle brought the sword to Angel from an enchanted sword smith, and Angel used it to stab the tentacled demon he had been fighting.[1]
In 2000, Angel used the sword to behead three demons who had been after Danny Marquez.[4] He also fought the demon knight with the sword, and, at one point, the demon used it to stab Angel, who ultimately beheaded his opponent before the Tribunal.[5]
In 2001, Angel practiced with the sword to prepare himself to act against Darla and Drusilla.[10] When he went searching for a Drokken beast, he fought the demon with the sword and killed him by stabbing his throat.[11] Later that year, Angel also wielded the sword when he went after a locksmith in search for the Coin and Key.[12]
Angel was not the only one who wielded the enchanted sword. Gunn carried a similar sword in 1999 while hunting vampires with his crew.[13] In another reality, Wesley used the sword to kill a demon while Angel would only stay in his room.[14] Holtz took the sword from the weapons cabinet to inspect it.[8] Cordelia armed Groo with the enchanted sword when he arrived in Los Angeles, much to Angel's jealousy, and he used it to fight the root monster[2] and carried it to Jenoff's Casino.[15] Finally, Connor also used the sword to intimidate Marissa while he had Angel imprisoned at the bottom of the ocean.[16]
Behind the scenes[]
- The sword replicates a Western European sword from around the year 1400, currently collected The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City. The pommel has the inscription in Latin: "sunt hic etiam sua praemia lavdi" (Here, too, virtue has its due reward).[17]
- The sword is an accessory for both 12 Inch Figure "City of..." Angel variants.
