Dwende was a species of supernatural beings. When walking through into the forest, Matay taught a little girl that one should always announce themselves because of dwendes, saying: "Tabi-tabi po nuno." [Pardon me, little people]. Indeed, a dwende had been hidden inside a tree while they passed.[1]
Behind the scenes[]
- In Filipino folklore, the dwendes are little creatures who are either good or mischievous depending on how homeowners treat them. People mutter the words "tabi-tabi po" in order to excuse themselves to avoid bothering the dwende.
