Template:Battle The Duel at the Vineyard is a fight between Buffy Summers and Caleb over the Scythe.

Background

After the disastrous battle with Caleb, the Potentials and Buffy's own friends start to question her leadership and eventually mutiny against her in favor of Faith as their new leader, forcing Buffy to leave the house. After spending a night with Spike, Buffy decides to go to the Vineyard and find out what Caleb posseses of hers there.

The Fight

Once at the Vineyard, Buffy surprises Caleb and attacks him. Unlike their earlier fights, this one is much more even as Caleb's incredible strength has started to diminish as he hasn't merged with the First in a long time. Buffy and Caleb battle for a while with Buffy able to hold her own. Eventually Buffy knocks Caleb down and finds the room with the Scythe embeded in a rock in it. Buffy easily pulls the Scythe from the rock and Caleb is visibly nervous about that and tries to convince Buffy to give the Scythe to him without a fight but she's ready to continue the battle. However, the First appears in Buffy's form and informs her of the Ambush in the sewers and her friends predicament to get her to leave and give Caleb and the First time to come up with a new plan. The First orders Caleb to let Buffy go and she leaves, ending the fight.

Aftermath

Buffy arrives just in time to save Faith and the surviving Potentials from three Turok-Hans and is given back command of her forces. The First has Caleb merge with it to replenish his diminishing strength again and sends him after Buffy once again, leading to the Duel in the Guardian's crypt where Buffy finally kills him with the Scythe thanks to help from Angel
