Donald Sutherland is a Canadian actor, who played Merrick Jamison-Smythe in the film Buffy the Vampire Slayer.

Sutherland's career spans more than 40 years, and he has appeared in numerous films of varying commercial and critical success such as Robert Altman's MASH (1970), Nicholas Roeg's Don't Look Now (1973), John Schlesinger's The Day of the Locust (1975), Phillip Kaufman's Invasion of the Body Snatchers (1978), F. Gary Gray's The Italian Job (2003), and the Hunger Games franchise (2012-2015).

He has won a pair of Golden Globe Awards and an Emmy Award.

Sutherland has been married three times. His most recognizable offspring is his son Kiefer who, from 2001 to 2010, played the role of Jack Bauer on the FOX drama 24. Coincidentally, Kiefer played a vampire in the 1987 film The Lost Boys, and Donald's other son, Angus, played a vampire in the film's 2008 sequel, Lost Boys: The Tribe.
