David Greenwalt is writer and director whose work includes Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel episodes, and the co-creator of the Angel series with Joss Whedon.

Career[]

In addition to Buffy and Angel, Greenwalt's writing credits include the television series Grimm, Moonlight, Kidnapped, Surface, Jake 2.0, Miracles, Profit, The X Files, The Commish, The Hat Squad, Doogie Howser, M.D., The Wonder Years, and Shannon's Deal. He has directed as well episodes of Grimm, Jake 2.0, Profit, The Commish, The Wonder Years, and Shannon's Deal.

He has written as well as the films Vasos de Papel, Secret Admirer, American Dreamer, Class, Utilities, and Wacko, all along fellow Angel and Grimm writer Jim Kouf. He also directed Rude Awakening and Secret Admirer.

Greenwalt attended the PaleyFest Buffy the Vampire Slayer Reunion panel in 2008 and the Entertainment Weekly Cast Reunions: Angel in 2019.

Buffyverse credits[]

Greenwalt was a co-executive producer on Buffy the Vampire Slayer until the third season, when he was promoted to executive producer. In total, he wrote for eight episodes of Buffy and directed four. He then left the show at the end of the third season to co-create the spin-off series Angel with Joss Whedon. He was credited as a consulting producer on Buffy for the remaining four seasons, although did not write or direct any episodes.

In Angel, Greenwalt was an executive producer and served as the showrunner for the first three seasons, when he wrote for fifteen episodes and directed seven. He left the staff at the end of the third season to pursue other works, and was credited as a consulting producer for the final two seasons. He returned in the fifth season to direct one episode.
