Com-cam, short for communications camera, was a device of which the Initiative had a prototype. It featured a camera, a microphone, and a heart rate monitor remotely transmitted.[1]

History[]

On her first visit to the Initiative facilities, Buffy Summers was curious about the com-cam, which Maggie Walsh described as worth US$20,000. Riley Finn explained the device was intended to give operatives a direct connection to control when they were out in the field. Walsh noted the com-cam also monitored the heart rate of the wearer and was considered a valuable tool for research in stress in combat condition.[1]

Later, Walsh gave Buffy the com-cam prototype to wear during a mission to find a creature and transmit a picture of it. However, once alone with two dangerous demons, Buffy discovered Walsh had set the trap to kill her. Walsh watched the transmission as Buffy fought the demons, but it lost her heartbeat when Buffy dropped the com-cam. Walsh informed Riley that Buffy was dead; at that point, Buffy came on to the camera feed and told Walsh that her attempt to kill her had failed, promising to show her how powerful a Slayer really was.[1]
