The name "Kalderaš" ([http://ling.uni-graz.at/~rombase/cgi-bin/art.cgi?src=data/ethn/groupsat/at-kald.en.xml]) means "cauldron makers", and was originally applied as an occupational designation. They are a subgroup of the Vlach Roma ([http://romani.uni-graz.at/rombase/cgi-bin/art.cgi?src=data/hist/modern/vlach.en.xml%7CVlach]), those gypsies originating from Walachia and Moldavia (in present-day Romania) whose dialects are strongly influenced by the local languages of these lands. The Romani arrived in these two principalities in the 14th century. By the 16th century, though the exact circumstances are still debated by historians, they were all already enslaved. Roma slavery was abolished in 1856, and the Kalderaš immigrated to other countries. Diverse subgroups, who speak various dialects, reside all over Eastern and Central Europe, from Russia to Austria, and there is a large population in the former Yugoslav states. Many of their descendants moved to Western Europe and America.

He swore revenge on them, which started a centuries-spanning feud between Spike and Dracula.

The name ""Kalderaš", meaning "cauldron makers", was originally applied as an occupational designation. They were a subgroup of the Vlach Roma, whose gypsies originating from Walachia and Moldavia whose dialects were strongly influenced by the local languages of those lands. The Romani arrived in the two principalities in the 14th century. By the 16th century, though the exact circumstances are still debated by historians, they were all already enslaved. Many of their descendants moved to Western Europe and America.

Nineteenth Century

Sometime in the first half of the 19th century, the Clan came into contact with Dracula. He was impressed with the magical talents of Magda Kalderash. She spent many years teaching him magic, while he protected the Clan.

In 1898, Darla kidnapped a Kalderash girl as a gift for Angelus. The girl's father, who was an Elder of the Clan, found them just after Angelus had drained and killed her. Angelus escaped, but the Clan had Magda curse him through the Ritual of Restoration. The girl's father told Angel of the curse, taking a little satisfaction in the pain the vampire was suffering.

Hours later, as Darla, Drusilla, and Spike massacred the Kalderash encampment, although Darla had come to try to convince the Elder to have Angelus' soul removed, because Spike had already killed the rest of the family, she was left without leverage and had to kill him to. Magda left an image of the three attackers in her crystal ball. So when later that night, Dracula visited the campsite to find everyone dead, he knew who the killers wore. He swore revenge on them, which started a centuries-spanning feud between Spike and Dracula.

Angelus subsequently tortured and killed Enyos and later also killed Jenny. Later, Willow Rosenberg would manage to once again place the Clan Kalderash's curse upon Angelus, turning him back into Angel, and making him suffer for his crimes once again.
