Charles Gunn was a manager for the vampire Angel and part of Angel Investigations in Los Angeles in a universe parallel to the universe without shrimp.[1]
Biography[]
Gunn at some point joined Angel Investigations with Angel, Cordelia Chase, Andrew Wells, Fred, Spike, Wesley, and Lorne. Eventually however he became Angel's manager on the show Angel for Hire, where he would frequently argue with Cordelia's manager Lindsey McDonald about which of their clients deserved more credit.[1] During his adventures with the detective agency, they traveled to Pylea, where they met the Groosalugg, who became an ally of the team, and fought the demon Lanugo.[2]
One night in 2022, after another argument with McDonald[1], Gunn returned to the Hyperion Hotel to discover that Wesley had become a zombie while Angel had become trapped within a spirit house, and while they were able to free him it was in a miniaturised form. While trying to restore the vampire to normal size, a sorrow demon was accidentally released which later turned out to be the team's old friend Groo who then allied with Lanugo. During all of this, the Daniel Osbourne of another reality arrived and explained how his friends were killed by a soulless version of Angel.[3][2] However with help from Fred's ex-boyfriend Riley Finn, they were able to convince Groo to stand down and save Los Angeles.[4]
Shortly after, the Daniel Holtz of another reality arrived in the Hyperion Hotel, hunting Angel's and Spike's counterparts. Gunn later told Angel how he had been offered the role of Van Helsing in a film, which he later accepted after quitting the show and the team.[5] It was eventually discovered that Angel's soulless counterpart Angelus was siring a vampire army, and Angel Investigations prepared for his attack, briefly believing that the returning Angel was Angelus until he convinced them otherwise. The team eventually found Spike, who had just killed his own soulless counterpart, and discovered that he was slowly becoming soulless due to being tricked by Dr. Daedalus, whom Spike had approached for help in saving Wesley. Together, the group attacked Daedalus's home to threaten him into giving Spike his soul back, but the arrival of Drusilla and Angelus with his vampire army interrupted them.[6]
Thanks to the werewolf abilities of a transformed Oz, the group was able to escape with Gunn going with Fred, Lorne and Andrew to get more weapons from the Hyperion. They met up with the rest of the team at a graveyard where they had resurrected a deceased Slayer named Buffy Summers and learned that Wesley sacrificed himself to restore Spike's soul. After seeing Angel kill Angelus, Gunn and the rest of Angel Investigations prepared to fight off what was left of the vampire army.[7]
