Catherine DeLancie was a vampire and a former associate of Angel.
Biography[]
Sometime in the 1890s, Catherine was captured by Drusilla and hypnotized as a "treat" for Angelus and Spike; she was presumably sired by Angelus.
Angelus showed Catherine the ropes of feeding and hunting, wherein she used her beauty to lure in prey and then feed. While attending a vampire party thrown by Angelus in Venice, Italy, the guests were attacked by the Hollower, a monstrous tentacled demon and the only known natural predator of the vampire race.
After escaping, Angelus rallied the vampires of Venice to attack and kill the Hollower, preparing holy weapons to kill the creature. Though the creature nearly killed Catherine in the process, Angelus used his weapons to drive the creature back and apparently kill it.
A century later, Catherine was living in San Francisco, where she was attacked by the still-living Hollower; though she escaped, her apparent lover was killed by the Hollower. Desperate for help, Catherine, along with her own vampire pack, made her way to Sunnydale to recruit Angel, who, after much persuasion, agreed to help her.
When they finally managed to track the Hollower down, however, Catherine was ensnared and eaten by it, though Angel, with help from Buffy Summers and Rupert Giles, managed to complete a ritual to destroy the creature shortly afterwards.
