Boom! Studios is an American comic book publisher which held the publishing license for Buffyverse comics from 2019 through late 2024.

History[]

As Dark Horse Comics's Buffy the Vampire Slayer license expired at the end of 2018, Boom! partnered with 20th Century Studios, which holds in a minority stake in the comic publisher. The new comic series debuted in January 2019, and the Angel + Spike comic series three months later, both as revamps of the original television shows reimagined for the year of 2019. Since then, Boom! Studios has published the miniseries such as Hellmouth, Willow, and Buffy the Last Vampire Slayer, and graphic novels such as Chosen Ones and Every Generation.

In 2022, Boom! began publishing two new series taking place in more alternative realities: Angel and The Vampire Slayer. They released the one-shot The Lost Summer in 2023, which takes place in the original timeline, and continued Buffy the Last Vampire Slayer with a homonymous miniseries.

In late 2024, Boom! let the license expire and lost the right to continue selling the Buffyverse comics they'd created.[1] In 2025, Dynamite Entertainment announced it had acquired the license for Buffy and Angel comics.[2]
