Beth was a cousin of Tara Maclay. She came to Sunnydale with Tara's father and brother to try to persuade her to return home with them.[1]

Biography[edit | edit source]

Beth, along with her uncle Mr. Maclay and her cousin Donald Maclay, came to Sunnydale to celebrate Tara's twentieth birthday. Tara missed the dinner and apologized to Beth when she found her on the campus of UC Sunnydale. Tara told Beth that she didn't want to go home, so Beth reacted angrily, telling her that she was being selfish for leaving her father and brother to look after themselves. In their conversation, Beth found out that Tara performed a spell on her friends so that they couldn't see her "demon side"; she scorned Tara for this and said that she'd tell Tara's father about it. Beth also threatened that, if Tara didn't tell her friends about her demon side, she would tell them herself.[1]

The next day, Beth, her uncle, and her cousin arrived at the Magic Box, where they found the corpses of Lei-Ach demons. Mr. Maclay revealed to the Scooby Gang about Tara's supposed curse of having a demon side and his intention to force Tara to come home. Buffy, Dawn, Willow, Giles, Xander, and Anya defended Tara, then Spike tested the farse of the curse by punching her in the nose, still causing the chip in his head to give him intense neurological pain. With this support and revelation, Tara told Beth, her brother, and her father that she was staying with her friends. As the Maclays were leaving, Beth angrily asked Tara if she was happy with what she'd done; Tara smiled.[1]
