Benny is the Serpent of Eden who tempted Adam and Eve. His true name is Ouroboros. When Illyria arrives in the city of Bete Noire, he called her trying to eat her (as he often did with newcomers); however they recognized each other.
Benny was attacked by Illyria, as he was banished from Vahla Ha'nesh, and was threatened with dismemberment by the Old One if they cross paths again. When he said that Bete Noire is not her city, Illyria said: "Any city I am in becomes by definition my city." The new Magistrate of the city, Liandra, then intervenes, saying that it is bad for morale if she does not take care of her citizens, even those unworthy as Benny. He was thus saved from Illyria's violence.
He appeared in the finale, in a destroyed New York, and grabbed Illyria's scythes.
