A battle took place at the Shadow Valley Vineyards, where the Scooby Gang and several Potential Slayers fought Caleb and the Harbingers of Death.[1]

Background[]
Caleb arrived in Sunnydale and stabbed the Potential Slayer Shannon, instructing her to deliver the message, "I have something of yours," to Buffy Summers in order to lure her to him. After tracking a Harbinger of Death to the Shadow Valley Vineyards, Buffy and her team launched an attack.[1]
The battle[]
Leaving Willow Rosenberg and Rupert Giles behind to protect the less experienced Potentials, Buffy led Spike, Faith Lehane, Alexander "Xander" Harris, and a group of Potentials to the vineyard. The Bringers expected them in the lower level, and the Scoobies and Potentials held their own against them in the ensuing fight.[1]
The Bringers stopped once Caleb appeared, who incapacitated Buffy with one punch that threw her flying against a wall. Spike attacked him, but Caleb quickly threw him headfirst into a barrel. The Bringers reentered the fight while Caleb broke Rona's arm, incapacitated Faith, and killed Dianne and Molly.[1]
Buffy asked Xander to help the others escape, fought through the Bringers, and attacked Caleb until she sent him flying with a punch. Once Xander had the surviving Potentials out, Caleb grabbed him and gouged out his left eye. Spike pushed Caleb away from Xander, and Caleb watched with a smile as Buffy and Spike helped Xander escape.[1]
Aftermath[]
The group became demoralized as a result of the battle and Caleb's power, which gave the First Evil a significant advantage.[1] The event weakened Buffy's leadership in the eyes of her group, and, while Spike was away on a mission with Andrew Wells, the Scooby Gang and the Potentials forced Buffy to leave her home, voting to appoint Faith to lead the group.[2]
