Aswang were women cursed by a Mambabarang into a demonic creature.
Description[]
Originally human, the Aswang was cursed by a high level of malevolent magic. The Mambabarang targeted women with a motherly spirit, likening their scent to sweet jackfruit. Once cursed, the Aswang must feed on pregnant women or young girls. They were able to shapeshift between their human and demonic forms; they'd grow wings and segment themselves, leaving behind their body from the waist downwards.[1]
Behind the scenes[]
- In Filipino folklore, Aswang is an umbrella term for various shapeshifting evil spirits, such as vampires, ghouls, witches, werebeasts, and, what appears to be what the Buffyverse based on, the viscera sucker.
