Meet Angel — a vampire cursed with a soul who has spent centuries protecting humanity from the monsters that lurk in the dark… including himself. Now, looking for redemption for the atrocities committed by the monster he was when he was first turned at the age of 18, Angel stumbles upon a new demon uprising and a shocking truth: The restoration of his humanity can only come if he takes one more life: a certain Slayer from Sunnydale who he's never met… but may now be his greatest enemy.
This story is an alternative version of Angel original series, with no sense of continuity between them.
The events are parallel to Buffy the Vampire Slayer (2019) series, crossing over in the miniseries "Hellmouth".
Angel walks the line between two worlds; a vampire cursed with a soul, he's spent centuries battling back the forces that would destroy humanity, in an attempt to redeem himself for the crimes committed by the monster he was when he was first turned.

But now, when the trail of the most recent demonic uprising takes him to Sunnydale, he realizes that the redemption he seeks can only come at a startling price. As Angel gets closer to redemption, the full truth of his horrific past as Angelus will be revealed — and there may be no way to escape his darkest secret of all.
Los Angeles is becoming infested with more supernatural threats than ever before — and Angel needs to know why before he can complete the rituals to become human once again. But the vampire-with-a-soul's quest for redemption won't be as simple as he hoped (I mean, it's already super complicated because he was, well, the mass murderer Angelus) when a new threat arrives on the scene and forces Angel to truly examine his past.
Angel's made his move and now he's dealing with the unintended consequences as the true threat facing him may be greater than he imagined. But one wrong choice may destroy his life as he knows it… and ruin his chances to lift the curse. Is there any price too high when redemption is the prize?
This is it — the stunning conclusion to the first story arc reimagining the iconic vampire with a soul. Angel must decide which path to follow on this ques to earn redemption and to free himself from the vampire curse — and all roads lead to Sunnydale.
After teetering between Sunnydale and Los Angeles, Angel now knows exactly what his mission is — to make sure the Hellmouth stays sealed! He'll stop anyone who gets in his way, be it friend or foe, vampire… or Slayer.
With Angel trapped in Sunnydale, the rest of Angel's newly formed team has their hands full dealing with the Hellmouth's fallout in Los Angeles. Will this gang of supernatural crime-solvers be able to protect Los Angeles from the shockwaves of the Hellmouth's opening… and from newly arrived vampire, Spike?

Behind the scenes
The subscription to the series at Boom! Studios reveals a prospect of at least 12 issues in addition to the current releases.
As it was announced only a week before its debut, writer Bryan Edward Hill revealed that the book had been codenamed "The Tooth Fairy" in emails and internal docs, in order to guarantee that the series would be a surprise. Meanwhile, the debut of Angel in the Buffy series was also being hidden with bogus covers for Welcome Back to the Hellmouth, Part Four and Frenemies.
Editor Jeanine Schefer has described the involvement of creator Joss Whedon in the series: "Same as with Buffy, he saw our initial pitch and gave us the green light to reinterpret and reimagine and we were off to the races. Bryan [Edward Hill]'s pitch was really fleshed out on both the plot and the emotional level and we're getting the legroom to do some cool stuff with Joss' blessing."
