Angel is a comic book series from Boom! Studios, spin-off to the Buffy the Vampire Slayer reimagining series.

Premise

Meet Angel — a vampire cursed with a soul who has spent centuries protecting humanity from the monsters that lurk in the dark… including himself. Now, looking for redemption for the atrocities committed by the monster he was when he was first turned at the age of 18, Angel stumbles upon a new demon uprising and a shocking truth: The restoration of his humanity can only come if he takes one more life: a certain Slayer from Sunnydale who he's never met… but may now be his greatest enemy.[1]

Continuity

  • This story is an alternative version of the original Angel series, with no sense of continuity between them.
  • The events are parallel to Buffy the Vampire Slayer (2019) series, crossing over in the miniseries "Hellmouth".

Behind the scenes

  • The subscription to the series at Boom! Studios reveals a prospect of at least 12 issues in addition to the current releases.[2]
  • As it was announced only a week before its debut, writer Bryan Edward Hill revealed that the book had been codenamed "The Tooth Fairy" in emails and internal docs, in order to guarantee that the series would be a surprise.[3] Meanwhile, the debut of Angel in the Buffy series was also being hidden with bogus covers for Welcome Back to the Hellmouth, Part Four and Frenemies.
  • Editor Jeanine Schaefer has described the involvement of creator Joss Whedon in the series: "Same as with Buffy, he saw our initial pitch and gave us the green light to reinterpret and reimagine and we were off to the races. Bryan [Edward Hill]'s pitch was really fleshed out on both the plot and the emotional level and we're getting the legroom to do some cool stuff with Joss' blessing."[4]
