Trying to force myself to hate a character.
I like all of the scoobies better than Willow. This is a rant so be warned!!! And Xander gets on my nerves a lot. Buffy is pretty good, and I really loved her until season 6 and 7. Which in season 6 I felt bad for her, but in season 7 she seemed like a different person. The way she uses Spike and treats her friends is terrible. But she is self-aware. Willow, cheating on her great boyfriend, Oz, with Xander- who’s dating Cordelia all while whining about how awful Cordelia is, insanity. Then trying to use magic on people without their consent? She does this multiple times, to Xander (almost but he catches her), to Tara (because of Willow’s whack addiction to magic Tara had to have her memory wiped despite not being the one who caused these issues). Oh and almost putting a devilish curse on Oz. She hates Cordelia and Faith so much (for not being good people?) but barely gives them a chance to talk to her at all. This is a fictional character so I am trying really hard not to hate her. At least I’m trying. Angel dies and Buffy runs away for a while. Tara dies and Willow tries to DESTROY the entire WORLD and everyone alive (because she cannot bear the pain). Why kill everyone though? This is mass-attempted murder of everyone on the planet, because her girlfriend died.. Anyway where did all of this sass and power-ache come from? She hasn’t gone through nearly as much as other characters. Let’s compare to other female anti-heroes and protagonists; Katherine (whole family killed and being hunted for being the doppleganger), Elena (family dying/ being hunted by vampires for being the doppleganger), Lana (being kidnapped throughout high school by meteor freaks and witnessing 2 alien invasions/massacres), and definitely not Buffy who’s life is devoted to fighting monsters EVERY DAY. Who I still won’t excuse for her behavior in season 7, but won’t hate either. Because when these characters have a dark side I understand. Dark Willow is the darkness inside of Willow which has shown up since season 3 at least. But what did season 3 Willow go through? Besides Angel. Oh and even to put the nail in the coffin Willow getting with someone she barely knows, that treats Buffy like crap and unimportant not “powerful” was trash. We know who I’m talking about. I actually don’t hate any of the other characters mentioned. I just try to remember Willow is not real and not hate her. And I’m not going to argue or bash anyone in the real world over this.
Anyway I only did this because I was upset about Lana and Buffy hate. Not an Elena fan. Not a season 6 Spike fan. I don’t really hate Willow. And I hate when I see hate online, I wanted to see if I got pleasure from posting this because most hate is just for people to feel better about themselves, and honestly I felt guilty.
Clana. Only lust not love? When there were together they often go on normal dates, which they talk about of you listen to the dialogue. Apparently they always either go out to dinner, horse-riding, or dancing. They don't even sleep together for years of being friends. Anyway Clark is the major gaslighter in the show, gaslighting means making someone believe something isn't true even when they know it is. That is all Clark does to Lana and Lex throughout the first 3 seasons every-time someone threatens them about Clark. Lex tries to talk to him after being told by multiple people that Clark has a dangerous secret (like Lana) and just asks Clark outright. "Friendships built on secrets are destined to fail" and Clark says "good thing we don't have that problem". This is actually gaslighting. Making someone believe that something didn't happen, which can actually drive people out of their minds. "There's nothing more to me than what you see" to Lana who actually saw him use his powers "You'd still be the same Clark Kent." Which is what she says every-time she asks about the secret which is really in 3x02, gunpoint 3x03 after being kidnapped over the secret, and 5x10 because he suddenly stopped when they were going to sleep together. Then of course Clark blames her for moving away to college. And wait she actually think she asks about his health, because at this point she went to Lex and told him to stay away from Clark because he's "just like the rest of us". As for secrets in season 4 Lana admits everything which she had already told her current boyfriend and Lex about. She tells Clark after they become friends again. Why tell someone something if you aren't even talking to them? Then we see in 5x10 that Lana brings up aliens and tries to talk about the spaceship with Clark, before it's revealed that she accepted Lex's offer. His offer to study the spaceship Lana told him was in Smallville in Arrival. Because Lex truly thinks aliens are going to invade and take over the world. Once Lex is revealed, you really expect her just to lie back and know that he's doing a ton of messed up stuff and not go after him? Lex is evil, but let him be? Going after an evil person doesn't make someone evil. And oh Lionel- didn't he kill his parents and a ton of innocent people over the years. Didn't he abuse his family? Who cares! But you seem to forget that Lana did save Lois' in Gone and Arrival. As for Lois, Chloe does confront her about that. But no Lana is not evil, she goes through therapy and reformation before returning because of some mental issues from being with Lex. She had mental problems after finding out someone she’s known for years is actually a monster. She did some messed up stuff, realized she had to change and worked through that. People say she never did anything good, but Lana always did charity work in high school. That’s why Clark admired her, because he wanted to help people too. Then when she got with Lex she wanted to do more charity work on bigger projects for prison inmates and border refugees. I’m sure he just pretended to go along with the helping people because she’s his morality pet for this season. I don’t get the whole she’s so idiotic and selfish for falling in love with a sociopath- BECAUSE SHE DOESN’T KNOW HE’S A SOCIOPATH! They’ve been friends she was 14, however that may be interpreted as creepy. But to her, he seems like a decent guy except for getting Jason fired. Then Lex says he wants to stop an alien invasion and woos her with his intention to do good. And a TON of grooming her to trust him. He was always touching her arms and face, and saying eerily seductive lines to her. I’m not sure if he meant them all to be seductive, but it certainly feels that way. Just look at 2x05 and 3x15 and tell me it’s not seductive. She’s 15 and 17 in those clips by the way. He’s 22-24. I’m not really in the mood to get into that. I’m going to take it as manipulation? In the second clip he definitely wants to know more about Adam, and probably about Adam stalking Clark. Except Lana doesn’t know why Adam is stalking Clark. This whole scene is about Adam and Clark. I’m going to take it as this. That’s the only thing that lets me sleep at night knowing I watch this show. I have no idea why he felt the need to quote a poem about a man in love with his enemies betrothed. Foreshadowing. And how he needs her because he feels he’d be lost without her.. Foreshadowing. And seducing her away from the man she’s with so they could be together. You get the picture, “Batter my Heart Three-personned God” by John Donne is a foreseen echo of the Lexana relationship. Which managed to enrapture me, disturb me, and break my heart all in one.
Buffy is absolutely wonderful in the first 5 seasons. The exact archetype of a hero, and even gives up things she loves and her own life for her sister and the world. I don’t get Buffy hate at all, which is why it is so hard for me to write this. Buffy hate seems ludacris in my mind. I don’t know how to defend her. Now in season 6 she has BIG mental issues. And in season 7 the whole I’m the slayer no one get’s to be the slayer but me got on my nerves. Especially the speech to Robin. Was that his name? It makes sense that Robin wants to kill someone who killed his mother and a ton of people over the centuries. Spike’s speech is absolutely mind-blowingly self-righteous and insane. Robin’s mother had to give up a stable relationship with her son to- HELP THE WORLD. Spike, that’s not bad. When Angel was being tortured by Drusilla and Spike and he apologized for the absolutely unforgivable things he did. I wouldn’t forgive him, but you know at least he apologized. He didn’t victim shame them. Media has a big problem with victim shaming. She how I almost did that to Willow, I felt guilty after writing all of that. But at least I stayed away from twisting other characters' decisions to blame Willow for all of the problems in her life including things she had no idea about or couldn’t control because she wasn’t there.
Now in Season 6, I’m not a BTVS Fan in seasons 6 and 7. I don’t like the characters in those seasons. And Spike’s whole “You’re friends would hate the real you.” Join me in the darkness. You’re not human. You’re just as bad as me. Is absolutely horrific. If someone REALLY needs to be hated, it should be Spike. There, he’s hot, charming, and funny. But if I see one more comment excusing him because he’s HOT, CHARMING, and FUNNY! I will lose my mind.
Like if I see one more, Lex only did that because Clark kept lying to him (okay), and gaslighting him about things he saw (okay) so he HAD to hold everybody hostage and attack them with meteor freaks thinking they were going to be killed by criminals- (NO) He should’ve either just kept asking Clark once or twice a season or ended the relationship. Like a normal person. He’s so misunderstood comment I will lose my mind. However, the alien thing- Lex and Lana have only seen aliens kill people and have been attacked by them. They are trying to stop and alien invasion, Lex isn’t evil THERE. But for all of those other things sadistically torturing innocent people to experiment on them: Aqua, Cyborg, Rage, Subterranean, Freak. Oh and killing off the people who know about it. Yes Lex is evil, and I hate when people excuse this. Yes this guy would totally fake a pregnancy. Yes he would totally kill Clark and Chloe or put Lana in danger if need come to be. (I don’t think he would kill Lana, I just don’t call me stupid!) But if I see one more post on how Lex wasn’t really evil when he killed or experimented on all of those people I’ll lose my mind!
Now about the aliens, Lex really did have good intentions here. He thought that aliens were going to take over the world, and all of the aliens on the show (except for a handful) really have tried too. They abducted Lex, massacred a large group of people in front of Lana, and keep trying to cause world destruction. I understand the lengths they go to, even threatening jobs and lying to each other- because each sees it as a possible world-destruction problem. Even if Lex wants to start building weapons against aliens, (which Lana is not on-board with according to Fallout) The only aliens they know of are trying to take over the world. That’s actually quite reasonable in this situation.
But especially if I see one more, Klaus was never really evil. I mean Katherine RAN away from human sacrifice. He killed her entire family, because of a choice she made. Or “Klaus is so hot I don’t care” comment. I will-I don’t know. But this is another example of victim shaming, because she didn’t know he was evil.. Then he did something awful to her. Now Katherine is evil, I’m not going to make a post for her like I did above for characters I think are unfairly hated. But Katherine started out as a relatively nice person until this happened. But she didn’t fight to stop Klaus, or work through her issues after it failed. She decided to help Klaus with the next sacrifice ritual. Knowing full well about the plan and that Klaus is evil and wants to take over humanity. That’s terrible. I stopped watching that show after a while. But that show has a lot of stuff I find questionable. Anyway some of that stuff about Willow was me trying to write like how I see haters write online which it why it sounds like I'm wild and unsympathetic. Willow's experiences shaped her. Just like Buffy, Lana, and Katherine's experiences shaped them.
