So I purchased the complete series bundle a while back, and just for some fun, i put on the Season 6 episode Once More With Feeling. And I was shocked and disappointed. I regularly listen to the songs on Spotify, and while watching on Vudu, many songs I could tell were edited along with at least one non-song scene. The one I can positively identify was Anya singing "Or maybe midgets" after her rabbit rock solo. I guess it's understandable, since modern society views it as a derogatory term. But offensive or not, i don't like when shows edit/censor content. Putting an advisory, sure, but leave the source alone. But i'll get over that one.
The non-song scene I noticed was near the end after Xander admits to conjuring the demon, he asks something like "does that mean I'm your queen" and the demon responds "tempting, but we'll forgo that little detail this time." What I can't figure out, is why edit this line? So the demon is straight, what's so offensive about that? The same episode had a lesbian serenade so it's not as if anyone can claim the show as being homo-phobic.
So, consider this a warning to any who are considering purchasing the show on Vudu (and maybe other streamers). The show is edited. I'll have to live with buyers remorse. But now I have to pull out the DVDs I bought a few years (the last anniversary edition) and see if those too were edited. I hope I don't have to hunt down an original DVD copy to get the show I love in its complete, unedited form.
