I recently read a discussion about Angel and Spike and people kept mentioning the bathroom scene to call Spike bad, but hear me out. I don't think people understand how beautiful and smart this whole Spike story is.
First of all, no-soul Spike fell in love with Buffy (it was more of an obsession) and even did things for her that made us see him as a human being (taking care of Dawn, being there for Buffy through tough times, crying). However, with the bathroom scene, we were reminded that he indeed was still a soulless demon. Vampires r*pe, kill, drink blood, torture. That's what it means to be a vampire. However, Spike's love and affection towards Buffy was so strong, that he wanted to beat his nature and find his soul for her and eventually DIE FOR HER. I don't think that people get this and are quick to judge Spike like soulless vampires are supposed to be gentlemen. Spike was the strongest character of all cause he had a choice; to stay soulless and never feel pain or love or to have a soul and always feel pain. That's what makes Spike the best character.
